Daffodil International University (DIU) has been chosen to host the 2026 semi-annual meeting of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) in a first for South Asia.
The conference is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh from Nov 19 to 21, 2026, the university said in a statement.
According to DIU, the announcement came at the closing session of the IAUP Semi-Annual Meeting 2026 at Mykolas Romeris University in Lithuania's Vilnius.
At the event, DIU and Daffodil Group Chairman Dr Md Sabur Khan took part as a speaker and as treasurer-elect of the IAUP.
The university said he received the symbolic conference crest as part of the formal handover, confirming Bangladesh as the next host country.
Sabur Khan described the development as a proud moment for both the university and the country.
“This conference brings together university leaders and academics from across the world. Hosting it in Bangladesh is a great honour for us and will further elevate the country’s higher education on the global stage,” he said.
He said such international platforms help position Bangladesh as an emerging hub for education, innovation and academic leadership.
The IAUP is an international organisation representing university leaders and works to promote cooperation, leadership development and partnerships in higher education, the statement said.
DIU said hosting the conference would help strengthen Bangladesh’s place in global academic dialogue while raising the university’s international profile.
