Chittagong, Apr 9 (bdnews24.com) – Students of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology attended classes on Monday after boycotting continuously for 36 days.
The students started boycott of classes on Mar 4 demanding immediate appointment of a vice-chancellor to the university.
The post has remained vacant since the expiry of the tenure of immediate past VC Prof Shyamol Kanti Biswas on Jan 28.
CUET student welfare director Prof Dr Tazul Islam told bdnews24.com that the academic activities of the university resumed on Monday, as the teachers conducted classes in various departments after students submitted written applications to the heads of their respective departments stating that they are keen to attend the classes.
General secretary of CUET Teachers Association Mir Mohammad Saki Kawsar said a number of students had been preventing the general students from attending the classes.
"The teachers are already demonstrating demanding appointment of VC. There was no logical reason for the students to be involved in the movement," he added.
He claimed that developmental activities of the university are being hampered for want of a VC, he said.
