CU proctor, assistants put in papers

Chittagong, Aug 2 (bdnews24.com) – Chittagong University proctor and three of his assistants have resigned following 'misconduct' by a pro-Awami League student front activists.
On Tuesday, they submitted their resignation letters to the vice-chancellor citing 'personal grounds' as the reason.
Those putting in their papers are proctor Mohammad Akhtar Hossain and assistant proctors Mohammad Monjur Morshed, Mohammad Moinul Islam and Shipak Krishna Devnath.
Moinul and Shipak told bdnews24.com that they had decided to quit on personal grounds.
However, proctor Akhtar could not be reached for reaction.
On Tuesday, 20-25 activist of 'Rakib-Sakib' group of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) met the proctor demanding withdrawal of the cases filed against them over the recent clashes on the campus.
They also threatened to clamp down the campus if the demand were not met within a day.
Later, Fazle Rabbi Sujon, a suspended student, misbehaved with the proctor while seeking permission to sit for an examination.
M A Khaled Chowdhury, BCL general secretary of the unit, told bdnews24.com, "As soon as I came to know of the incident, along with Sujon, I went to meet the proctor. Later, Sujon apologised for his misbehaviour."
Vice-chancellor Mohammad Anwarul Azim Arif told bdnews24.com over cell phone that he was in Dhaka, "but I've heard of the misconduct by some students with the proctor".
