Two people have been detained after several activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League staged a flash procession at the Raju Memorial Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus.
The incident took place around 6am on Saturday, according to Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed.
“A few Chhatra League activists brought out a flash procession at TSC. Later, members of our proctorial team detained two people with a microbus and handed them over to Shahbagh Police Station,” he said.
The detainees are Farhan Tanvir Nasif, a 2019-20 session student from Sir AF Rahman Hall, and the driver of the microbus known only as Rubel.
Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Division, said the two were detained during the procession.
“They have been taken to the police station for questioning,” he added.
Witnesses said a group of 10 to 12 people suddenly gathered at the foot of the Raju Memorial Sculpture, brought out a procession and displayed a banner.
They then quickly left the area in a black HiAce microbus.
The proctorial team later detained a Dhaka University student and the driver of another HiAce vehicle at the scene before handing them over to police.
