Chittagong University will resume regular academic activities from Sunday following a clash between students and local residents.

The university administration issued a notice on Thursday stating that academic activities, including classes and exams, will return to the normal schedule from Sept 7.

It added that campus transportation will also return to the usual schedule.

Tensions had been running high on campus after a clash broke out between students and locals around midnight on Aug 30, sparked by a dispute between a female student living in a building adjacent to Gate No. 2 of the university and the building's security guard.

Another clash between the two sides occurred the next day.

Hundreds of people, including students, members of the university’s proctorial body, and the vice-chancellor, were injured in the violence. Section 144 movement restrictions were imposed on the campus and its surroundings areas from 2pm on Sunday to 12am on Monday.

On Sept 1, after the clash, the university authorities suspended examinations for all departments and institutes at the university until Thursday. Another order issued at a later time stated that any department or institute could conduct examinations after ensuring the 100 percent attendance of examinees.

Due to the tense atmosphere following the clashes, no examinations were held on Wednesday. However, some departments held classes.
