A total of 260 nomination papers have been submitted for 23 posts in the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election.

For the hall election’s 15 posts, 558 nomination papers have been filed from 16 of the 17 residential halls.

As many as 62 nominations have been submitted for five student representative seats in the Senate.

Chief Election Commissioner of RUCSU F Nazrul Islam shared the development at the end of the submission deadline on Sunday.

He said 395 nomination papers had been collected, but 135 were not submitted in the end. He also could not provide details for one male hall.

Although the RUCSU Election Commission had planned to hold a press conference in the evening, it did not take place.

For the central union, 20 candidates have submitted nomination papers for vice-president (VP), 15 for general secretary (GS), and 16 for assistant general secretary (AGS).

The other posts drew the following numbers of nominations:

• Sports secretary: 9

• Assistant sports secretary: 6

• Cultural secretary: 11

• Assistant cultural secretary: 9

• Women’s affairs secretary: 7

• Assistant women’s affairs secretary: 8

• Information and research secretary: 13

• Assistant information and research secretary: 8

• Media and publication secretary: 10

• Assistant media and publication secretary: 10

• Science and technology secretary: 9

• Assistant science and technology secretary: 8

• Debate and literature secretary: 9

• Assistant debate and literature secretary: 6

• Environment and social welfare secretary: 12

• Assistant environment and social welfare secretary: 18

• Executive members: 56

The RUCSU election schedule was first announced on Jul 28, but the timeline has been revised several times.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on Sept 8 and 9. The preliminary list of candidates will be published on Sept 10, objections will be received and disposed of on Sept 11, withdrawals will take place on Sept 13, and the final list will be released on Sept 14.

According to the latest revised schedule, voting will be held from 9am to 4pm on Sept 28 in all academic buildings of the university, with results expected the same day.
