The Election Commission has called on students and others involved not to be misled over the vote counting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall elections.
The appeal came in a media statement on Friday evening from AKM Rashidul Alam, member secretary of the commission, amid growing frustration over the delay in publishing results.
Nearly 24 hours after voting ended, the JUCSU election results have yet to be announced.
Demanding a swift announcement, many students gathered outside the JUCSU Senate Bhaban on Friday evening. The commission made its call amid this situation.
Commenting on the ongoing counting process, Rashidul said: “It must be noted that the votes are being counted manually. The counting will continue uninterrupted until it is completed. The commission hopes to finish the counting by night and announce the results accordingly.”
Earlier that day, Assistant Prof Jannatul Ferdous, who was overseeing the counting, died while on duty.
Due to this, along with Friday prayers, the funeral, and lunch breaks, the vote counting was temporarily paused but has since resumed.
Rashidul added that these events caused a slight slowdown in the counting process. “We earnestly request everyone involved to avoid confusion and cooperate with the Election Commission.”
