Prof Shamsad Mortuza has been appointed vice-chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

The Secondary and Higher Education Division of the education ministry issued a gazette notification on Monday confirming his appointment with the approval of the president, who serves as the university’s chancellor.

He previously served as pro-VC of ULAB from 2018 to 2022, and also worked as a special advisor to its Board of Trustees.

With more than three decades of teaching experience in English departments at different universities, Shamsad earned his PhD in English Literature from Birkbeck, University of London.

He was also a Fulbright postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles.

He currently serves as president of PEN Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Fulbright Alumni Association.

In a media statement, ULAB authorities expressed hope that the university will advance in education and research under his leadership.
