Sheikh Fazle Fahim named FBCCI president after unopposed election

Apex trade body FBCCI has named Sheikh Fazle Fahim as president for the 2019-2021 term.

Md Ali Ashraf MP, Chairman of the FBCCI Election Board, officially announced the names of the new office bearers on Monday after the candidates were elected unopposed.

Fazle Fahim representing the Gopalgonj Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been elected the 22nd president of the umbrella trade body of Bangladesh.

Md Muntakim Ashraf representing Bangladesh Cold Storage Association has been elected senior vice president.

Six more vice presidents both from Chamber and Association Groups have also been elected.

They include Chamber Group’s Hasina Newaaz from Bagerhat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Md Rejaul Kariem Rejnu from Jamalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Dilip Kumar Agarwala from Chuadanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The VPs of the Association Group are Md Siddiqur Rahman from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association or BGMEA, Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed from Bangladesh Electrical Association, and Nizamuddin Rajesh from Bangladesh Secondary Quality Tinplate Importers and Merchants Association.

Prime Minister’s Adviser Salman F Rahman, outgoing FBCCI President Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and the newly elected president Fahim addressed the ceremony marking the announcement.

Son of Awami League leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim MP, Fazle Fahim has served the outgoing FBCCI committee of executives as its senior vice-president.

The managing director of Obsidian Bangladesh Limited, Fazle Fahim heads the Council of Chamber Presidents as well.

The president and three vice-presidents were elected from the Chamber Group while the post of senior vice-chairman and three other VPs went to the Association Group this time in line with the organisation’s charter.

The eight are among 42 directors elected from both groups with 21 from each.

The 72-strong board has been formed with 30 other nominated candidates – 15 from as many associations, including BTMEA and BKMEA, and the 15 others from chambers of commerce and industry like DCCI, MCCI, and CCCI.

Those elected FBCCI directors unopposed include:

Chamber Group: Masudur Rahman Milon, Azizul Hoque, Masud Parvez Khan Imran, Mohammad Anwar Sadat Sarker, Gazi Golam Ashria, Tabarukul Tosaddek Hossain Khan Tito, Md Kohinoor Islam, Prabir Kumar Saha, Mohd Ataur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohammad Bazlur Rahman, Mohammed Riyadh Ali, Md Hasanuzzaman, Humayun Rashid Khan Pathan, AH Ahmed Jamal, Sharita Millat, Sujib Ranjan Dash, and AKM Shaheed Reza.

Association Group: Khandaker Ruhul Amin, Abu Motaleb, Md Shafiqul Islam Vorosha, Shomi Kaiser, Rashadul Hossain Chowdhury Ronni, Md Habib Ullah Dawn, Shafquat Haider, Helena Jahangir, Amzad Hussain, SM Jahangir Hossain, Md Abul Ayes Khan, Abu Naser, Khondokar Moinur Rahman Jewel, Hafez Harun-Or-Rashid, Abdul Haque, Mehdi Ali, Md Munir Hossain, and Kazi Shoyeb Rashid.
