A press release of the association on Monday said gold prices per bhori (11.664 gram) would increase by Tk 1,225 and silver by Tk 58.

It said the association executive committee had ‘unanimously’ decided on the hike at a meeting earlier in the day.

According to the release, 22-carat gold per bhori will sell at Tk 42,515 against the present price of Tk 41,290, 21-carat at Tk 40,414 against Tk 39,191 and 18-carat at Tk 33,767 against Tk 32,542.

Traditional gold will cost Tk 22,686 a bhori against the present price of Tk 21,461, and 21-carat silver at Tk 933 against Tk 874.

Association General Secretary Enamul Haq Khan said the price hike had been forced by a rise in international gold prices.

The price of the precious metal had fallen twice in the last three months—by Tk 1,225 on Nov 8 and by the same amount on Dec 6.

Earlier, the price had risen by Tk 1,500 on Oct 17 last year.
