A scheduled meeting of Exim Bank’s board of directors has been called off after Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur fell ill.

The central bank had planned to meet with five banks as part of its ongoing efforts to merge them into a single Islami bank.

The first meeting was to be held between the governor and Exim Bank on Sunday.

Although the chairman and directors of Exim Bank arrived at the central bank for the meeting, it did not take place as Ahsan was unable to attend.

“Governor sir is ill, so he did not come to Bangladesh Bank today. There was no meeting today,” Exim Bank Chairman Nazrul Islam Swapan told bdnews24.com.

Bangladesh Bank spokesperson and executive director Arief Hossain Khan confirmed the cancellation.

“I know that sir (governor) will not come to the office today,” he said.

As part of the merger plan, the governor is expected to hold discussions with the boards of the five banks, where they will present their financial positions.

The chairmen, directors and managing directors of the banks are scheduled to attend.

The banks involved in the process are Exim Bank, Social Islami Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Union Bank and Global Bank.

Swapan said, “We have asked to be informed when the governor recovers. We will come for a meeting with the governor sir then.”
