After sharply raising fuel prices in September, the government has decided to keep them unchanged in October.
Consumers will continue to pay Tk 135 per litre for diesel, Tk 165 for octane, Tk 160 for petrol and Tk 155 for kerosene.
An order issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on Wednesday said the latest prices would remain effective from Oct 1.
The government had raised the prices of all four fuels by Tk 20 per litre on Sept 20, with the new rates taking effect the following day.
Previously, diesel cost Tk 115, octane Tk 145, petrol Tk 140 and kerosene Tk 135.
The September increase came as fuel prices rose in international markets amid the war in West Asia.
Earlier, the government had sharply raised prices on Apr 18 during a crisis driven by the same factor.
Diesel rose from Tk 100 to Tk 115, octane from Tk 120 to Tk 140, petrol from Tk 116 to Tk 135 and kerosene from Tk 112 to Tk 130.
In March, the prices were Tk 100 for diesel, Tk 120 for octane, Tk 116 for petrol and Tk 112 for kerosene.
In June, kerosene rose to Tk 135 from Tk 130, petrol to Tk 140 from Tk 135 and octane to Tk 145 from Tk 140. Diesel remained at Tk 115. Those prices continued through July and August.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) says it lost Tk 228.76 billion selling fuel from March to August. The government expects September’s increase to cut its losses by about Tk 100 billion.
Under an automatic pricing system, fuel prices are set monthly in line with international markets, though regular adjustments have not been made in recent months.
