Martin Reiser, the regional vice president of the World Bank for South Asia, is in Dhaka on a two-day visit.
He arrived in the capital on Wednesday, the bank’s Dhaka office said in a statement.
Reiser is scheduled to hold meetings with interim government head Muhammad Yunus, Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed, Energy Advisor Fouzul Kabir and Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, the statement read.
The World Bank vice president will also meet senior government officials to discuss current economic affairs of Bangladesh.
The statement read the World Bank is one of the first development partners to support Bangladesh since its independence. The bank has committed nearly $44 billion to Bangladesh so far, mostly in grants or concessional loans.
A major programme is now underway in Bangladesh in association with the International Development Association, or IDA, of the World Bank.
