Shimanto Bank PLC has appointed Abul Kashem Md Shirin and Barrister Shahwar Jamal Nizam as independent directors on its board.

Shirin is a former managing director and CEO of Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited, where he served for over nine years, a media statement said.

He joined the bank in 2003 and played a role in expanding its digital banking services, including ATM and POS networks, cards, mobile apps, mobile financial services and agent banking.

Before that, he worked at BASIC Bank as deputy general manager and head of IT.

He began his career in 1984 at Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation.

Shirin holds degrees from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Bangladesh Agricultural University and the Asian Institute of Technology.

Nizam began his legal career in London in 2001 at Erskine Chambers, read the media statement.

He later worked at Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed & Associates and served as legal and compliance manager at Citibank’s Dhaka branch.

He also worked in Singapore with international law firms before returning to Bangladesh to establish DFDL Bangladesh, a law firm focused on international investment.

Nizam holds a law degree from the University of Sheffield and an LLM from Queen Mary University of London, and was called to the Bar of England and Wales from Lincoln’s Inn.
