Shwapno wins SDG Brand Champion award for Inclusive employment practices

The retailer is recognised for creating employment opportunities for specially-abled individuals

Shwapno has been named an SDG Brand Champion in recognition of its efforts to create employment opportunities for differently-abled people.

The retail chain received the award in the Sustainable Partnerships and Institutions – Employment for Differently-Abled Individuals category at the 4th SDG Brand Champion Awards, according to a company statement.

The award recognises Shwapno's commitment to promoting workplace inclusion, diversity and equal employment opportunities in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year's awards assessed 472 nominations across 19 categories designed around Bangladesh's development priorities.

After a multi-stage evaluation by seven grand jury panels comprising 27 industry experts, organisers selected 34 winning initiatives and 25 Honourable Mentions.

Shwapno also received an Honourable Mention in the Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – Farm-to-Shelf category.

In a statement, the company said the recognition reflects its long-standing commitment to assessing people on the basis of their skills and potential rather than physical ability.

It added that the retailer would continue expanding inclusive employment opportunities while strengthening sustainable business practices across its operations.
