The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission, or BERC, has raised the price of liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG, citing an increase in the value-added tax.
With the new price effective from Tuesday, the 12kg LPG cylinder, which is widely used in cooking, will cost Tk 1,459 at the consumer level. The users saw the change in the price in about two weeks.
The price of LPG has been set at Tk 121.56 per kg. The price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder has been increased by Tk 4 in the new rate.
The price of a 12.5kg government LPG cylinder will be Tk 690 at the consumer level.
The price of LPG was fixed at Tk 121.19 per kg in an announcement on Jan 2.
Despite a slight decline in global market prices, the government had kept the price of a 12kg LGP cylinder at Tk 1,455 in January like the previous two months, citing the devaluation of the local currency.
The price of a 12kg cylinder in November and December was Tk 1,455.
The BERC came with the adjustment in the LPG price as the National Board of Revenue, or NBR, had increased VAT. The agency also adjusted the price of other cylinders according to the new price.
The price of autogas used for vehicles was set at Tk 76.27 per litre from Tk 66.78 and reticulated gas at Tk 117.81 per kg.
