Import and export activities will continue at all customs houses, including Chittagong Port, to keep trade operations uninterrupted during the Eid holidays, despite the closure of all government offices.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has given directives to authorities to keep customs houses and excise stations open during the Eid holidays and weekends, aside for Eid day.

In an order issued on Tuesday, customs commissioners have been asked to take necessary measures to keep import and export activities running on “a limited scale” on public and weekly holidays.

As a result, import and export processing will be allowed on days other than Eid day between Mar 17 and Mar 23.

Last Sunday, the government issued a circular extending the Eid holiday to seven days.

The circular said, "The government has declared an additional day of public holiday by executive order on Mar 18 (Wednesday) between the upcoming Shab-e-Qadr and Eid-ul-Fitr holidays previously scheduled by the government."

Bangladesh is likely to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Mar 21, subject to the sighting of the moon.
