The Brazil envoy's position has remained vacant since March after the death of Ambassador Mijarul Quayes.
A doctor by training, Rahman joined the foreign service in 1991.
He passed his MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College and later studied Masters in Diplomacy and Administration of International Organization from the University of Paris.
He earlier served as the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Turkey, Deputy High Commissioner in India, and Minister at Bangladesh Permanent Mission to United Nations in New York in his career. He also served in Bangladesh Missions in Manama and Los Angeles in different capacities.
“He has also completed several professional training courses at home and abroad, and represented Bangladesh in numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings,” the foreign ministry said.
