Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has returned to Bangladesh after attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
He arrived at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:20am on Sunday, according to his Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
An Emirates flight carrying the prime minister and his entourage left John F Kennedy International Airport around 11:30pm local time on Friday.
The flight reached Dubai International Airport around 8:30pm local time, where it made a six-hour stopover before leaving for Dhaka after 2am, Shiplu said.
Tarique's delegation had arrived in New York on Sept 21 to attend the General Assembly session.
The 35-member delegation included the premier's wife Zubaida Rahman, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Civil Aviation Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat, state ministers for foreign affairs Humaiun Kobir and Shama Obaed Islam, and Bangladesh's Permanent Representative to the UN Irene Khan.
Tarique became the third member of the Zia family to address the General Assembly, delivering his maiden speech at its 81st session on Thursday.
His late father president Ziaur Rahman had addressed the Assembly's 11th special session on Aug 26, 1980.
A decade later, on Oct 1, 1993, his mother Khaleda Zia addressed the 48th session, going on to speak before the Assembly five times in total up to 2005 as the country's first woman prime minister.
Tarique and his wife attended a dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump for heads of state and government at the General Assembly, as well as a breakfast hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Alongside the Assembly session, the prime minister took part in high-level meetings on the Rohingya crisis, rising sea levels, climate change, and maternal and newborn deaths.
This was Tarique's first visit to the US as prime minister. He had earlier visited Malaysia and China in June.
