Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Health Minister Mohammed Nasim and Environment Minister Anwar Hossain Manju were also present during the ceremony at the new chancery complex on Monday morning.

According to the project papers, those projects worth Tk 720 million, have been chosen, keeping in mind geographical spread, socio-economic benefits and priorities of Bangladesh.

The projects cover sectors such as education, healthcare, IT, water supply and social welfare.

Eleven water treatment plants are being built in southern Bhandaria Upazila in Pirojpur that will provide desalinated potable drinking water to 150,000 citizens. Some 36 community clinics will also be built.

Those projects also include reconstruction of Ramna Kali Temple which was destroyed by the invading Pakistani forces in 1971.

The project includes construction of the main temple, a five-storey guesthouse, a deep tube-well in the temple premises and the construction of the main entry gate of the temple.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has already shifted to the new chancery complex inside the diplomatic complex from Gulshan 1. The external affairs minister formally inaugurated the complex.

The Chancery complex was constructed on a 14.5 bigha plot of land or around 5 located at plot 1-3 Park Road, Baridhara.

The complex consists of the Chancery, the residence of the High Commissioner, a housing block, a sports complex, and a multipurpose hall for recreation.

The staff members of the High Commission moved to the housing block in Oct 2004 and the Chancery started functioning from its new premises from Oct 2016.

Swaraj came to Bangladesh on Sunday for the annual stock-taking meeting under the India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission with her counterpart Mahmood Ali. Swaraj will leave Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

After the meeting on Sunday, Ali said India is the “most important, trusted and friendly neighbour” to Bangladesh.

“It is also one of our key development partners.”
