The threat was issued in a note along with burial shroud, Atar and rosewater inside a wrapped up packet delivered to her home on Wednesday afternoon.

Tarana told bdnews24.com that she was not home at the time.

“I received a call from home and was told that a Bangla New Year gift packet reportedly sent by the mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation has been received.”

She said security guards at her house told her that two men had delivered the packet claiming that it was from the Narayanganj mayor.

They left saying they were going to check up on their motorcycle outside the gate, but did not return, which alarmed the guards.

They later informed her through the house help. Feeling suspicious after hearing the matter, she asked the guards to open the packet.

“The guards then found the items inside the packet with the note that read, ‘Now it’s your turn, get ready to die’.”

The state minister said, “I have been in politics since I was a student. I don’t get scared by such threats.”

The security guards have also been warned to not accept any gifts from now on, she said.

A lawyer by training, Tarana Halim said she will lodge a general diary with police.

The actress-turned-politician in September last year had received ‘another threat’ over the telephone for her initiatives to stop illegal VoIP business dealings and deactivate unregistered mobile-phone SIM cards.

The anonymous caller had asked her to go slow on banning illegal VoIP and SIMs.
