Police have recovered 10 live crude bombs from an abandoned biscuit carton in Gazipur’s Tongi.

The bombs were found outside the house of local Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Nur Nabi in Andharul of Gutia on Saturday, said Md Arifur Rahman, chief of Tongi West Police Station.

Local resident Sakib Hossain said he grew suspicious on seeing a biscuit carton lying by the roadside that morning.

The carton was slightly open, and he spotted bomb-like objects inside and alerted the police station at once.

Officers cordoned off the spot and barred passers-by. A bomb disposal team arrived around noon and defused the devices, said Mehedi Hasan, a sub-inspector of the station.

Police are looking into who planted the bombs and why, officer Rahman said. An investigation has begun.
