A progressive teachers' body of public universities has paid tribute to bdnews24.com Editor-in-Chief Toufique Imrose Khalidi, saying the vacuum his death leaves in the media world will be hard to fill.
In a condolence message on Saturday, the Bangladesh Public University Progressive Teachers' Society prayed for the salvation of his departed soul and extended sympathy to his family.
“[Khalidi] was a courageous, patriotic media figure, committed to truthful journalism, free thought, democratic values and the spirit of the Liberation War,” the statement said.
“His work, thinking, ideals and patriotism have made a significant contribution to journalism and the media in the country.
Khalidi, who was on a private visit to London, fell seriously ill with a brain haemorrhage and was taken to St Bartholomew's Hospital in the city.
Doctors declared him dead at 2:23pm local time on Friday. He was 59.
