Dhaka, April 25 (BDNEWS) – The chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) was embarrassed with a Rolex Oyster wristwatch.
Country's leading industrial group Partex gifted NBR chairman Khairuzzaman Chowdhury the costly watch.
An embarrassed Chowdhury sent the watch for depositing it with the government treasury.
In a letter sent to the cabinet secretary, the NBR chairman informed that Partex group vice chairman AA Kaiser Tito met with him at the NBR on April 19.
"After the meeting, he gave me a Rolex Oyster watch as a gift. I felt embarrassed to accept the gift but for courtesy I had to receive it," he wrote in the letter.
The NBR chairman informed the cabinet secretary that the gift was very costly one with an approximate price over Tk 80,000.
Along with the letter, Chowdhury sent the watch to the cabinet secretary for depositing it with the government treasury.
The price of a Rolex Oyster watch in the international market on Monday was US$ 1,500 equivalent to over Tk 90,000.
NBR chairman Khairuzzaman Chowdhury is also secretary of the Internal Resource Division.
