Rezwanul Haque, 22, a member of the Bangladesh Unified Cup football team, was found safe on Tuesday in Chicago, police said, according to Monir Choudhury, the Bangladesh consul general in Illinois.

Haque made the decision to leave the Gold Coast hotel he was staying at with teammates on his own, Choudhury said citing the police.

“I’ve already told the police to take steps to send him back to Bangladesh,” Choudhury said.

Haque was last seen in hotel surveillance footage voluntarily getting into an SUV in the afternoon last Thursday, a day before the games were set to begin.

Classified by police as a high-risk missing person with no possible foul play, his disappearance troubled the Special Olympics community, which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the event this year, as well as Bangladeshi officials.
