Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia on Sunday to attend the International Conference on Women in Islam.
She will attend the conference to be organised by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, or OIC, in Jeddah on Monday, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said during a press conference in Dhaka on Thursday.
A commercial flight from Biman Bangladesh Airlines will take her to Madinah on Sunday and then travel to Jeddah.
Momen said that Hasina will be a key speaker at the conference's opening ceremony on Nov 6, and she will discuss her government's initiatives for women's empowerment.
She is also expected to address Bangladesh's stance on Israel's actions in Gaza against the Palestinian people, Momen said.
Hasina previously expressed her concerns amid flaring tensions in the Middle East, with the conflict between Israel and Palestine coming to a head once more.
She called on world leaders to abandon the culture of conflict and put an end to global warfare during an event in Dhaka on Oct 17.
Momen also mentioned that the prime minister will emphasise the positive impact of Islamic education on women's status.
She will also highlight the contributions of Muslim women throughout Islamic history, and she will discuss strategies to protect them from increasing global Islamophobia, according to the foreign minister.
The three-day conference aims to clarify women's rights and responsibilities in Islam.
During her visit, Hasina is expected to have a one-on-one meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, said Momen.
Hasina will visit Makkah to perform Umrah after the conference, he added.
