A person close to Minister Nurul Islam Nahid’s family confirmed to bdnews24.com on Monday that Nadia, a Dhaka University teacher, left Ganajagaran Mancha Spokesperson Imran’s home three months ago.

They tied the knot on Dec 31, 2016.

“The two families decided as per Nadia’s wish,” the person said.

The issue was also discussed in Monday’s Cabinet meeting, a minister who was present at the meeting told bdnews24.com.

“At one stage of the meeting, the education minister was told that his son-in-law had taken a controversial stance. The education minister had to reveal the information at the time that his daughter was no longer with Imran,” the minister said.

Imran did not take calls from bdnews24.com. Nadia could not be reached for comments either.

Born on Oct 14, 1983, Imran became a household name after the Ganajagaran Mancha movement started at Shahbagh square in February 2013 to demand capital punishment for war criminals.

He received his MBBS degree from Rangpur Medical College, where he was associated with the ruling Awami League’s student affiliate Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Nadia, who is from Sylhet, completed SSC in 1997. She did her masters from the Dhaka University and is currently an assistant professor at the university’s Department of Linguistics.
