The fire was brought under control by three firefighting units
Firefighters have doused a blaze at Korail slum after a half-hour effort.
The fire broke out at the slum’s Beltola section around 4:30 pm on Sunday. Smoke billowing from the burning shanties could be seen from afar.
Nine units of the Fire Service and CIvil Defence rushed to bring the flames under control, according to Khaleda Yasmin, duty officer at the fire service control room.
She said the risks of the fire spreading were averted.
The extent of damage was still being determined, and no casualties were reported.
