Tarique, Shehbaz discuss Bangladesh-Pakistan ties

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has met his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif in New York, with the two leaders discussing bilateral ties and opportunities for greater cooperation.

The meeting took place at the United Nations headquarters on Thursday morning, according to the prime minister’s Assistant Press Secretary KM Nazmul Haque.

Nazmul said the two leaders discussed various aspects of Bangladesh-Pakistan relations, as well as regional and international developments.

They also exchanged views on areas where the two countries could work together for the benefit of their people.

The two prime ministers stressed the importance of strengthening relations on the basis of mutual respect, understanding and cooperation, according to Nazmul.

They also agreed on the need to maintain regular communication and dialogue on issues of shared interest.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, State Minister Humaiun Kobir and Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Irene Khan attended the meeting with Tarique.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and several other officials accompanied Shehbaz.
