The young victim was a member of the ‘Nine Star Group’ (9MM Boys), who are rivals with ‘Disco Boys’, according to police.

The enmity began last year when ‘Talachabi Raju’, a member of the ‘Nine Star Group’, was stabbed by members of the Disco Boys.

Nafis Md Alam Don, who has been arrested over the murder, is also accused in the case started after the stabbing incident. He secured bail in the case a few days before the murder.

The victim, an eighth grader from Trust School and College, was chased by 10 to 15 youths to Road 17 of Uttara’s Sector 13 on Friday evening.

There, the killers hacked him with sharp weapons. Adnan died within an hour of being taken to a hospital.

The case started with West Uttara Police Station by the victim’s father, Md Kabir Hossain, named nine and accused at least 12 more unidentified attackers who are between the age of 16 and 22.

The nine named for murder are Nafis Md Alam aka Don, 19, Naimur Rahman Anik, 19, Sadaf Zakir, 16, Raihan Ahmed Setu, 19, Rabiul Islam, 18, Md Akhtaruzzaman Chhoton, 19, Ahmed Zian, 19, Khandker Shubho, 19 and Nazmus Sakib, 22.

“Around 20 to 25 youths from Uttara are members of the Disco Group and Nine Star Group on Facebook. They would make trouble over who is Boro Bhai, (big brother) and who isn’t,” said West Uttara Police Station’s Investigator Abdur Razzak.

Adnan once went to Milestone School with murder accused Sadaf. His father had moved him to Trust School last year. One of Adnan’s brothers will take his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination from Milestone this year.

Locals said the youths who form the two ‘gangs’ have no political affiliation. They would party and make noise while driving motorcycles with reckless speed.

They would reportedly take drugs in the playgrounds and taunt schoolgirls.

Investigators from West Uttara Police Station said they are looking into the allegations.
Adnan’s family lives in Sector-12. His father, businessman Kabir Hossain, said his son was not involved in criminal activities.
“Adnan was never involved in anything bad. He was thin, so could not play competitive sport. He did not have enemies,” he told bdnews24.com.
He had gone out to play badminton in Sector-12 around 4pm, he said. It was evening when he found out that his son has been left bloodied after an attack.
“They chased Adnan from Sector-5 to Sector-13. People took photos of his being beaten but no-one tried to save him. A woman selling pies in the street took him to the hospital.”
“He was killed in front of everyone but no-one made a single sound. If he does not get justice, I’ll say there is no justice in this land.”
