The Sherpur Bridge on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway will be closed for 10 hours for repair work.
From 11pm on Friday to 9am on Saturday, all vehicular movement along the Shayestaganj-Sherpur-Sylhet section of the Dhaka-Sylhet highway will be suspended, according to a statement issued by the Press Information Department, or PID, on Thursday.
To minimise disruption, authorities have advised travellers to use alternative routes, including the Shayestaganj-Mirpur (Bahubal)-Sreemangal-Moulvibazar-Fenchuganj-Sylhet road.
The statement further recommended the Sherpur (Moulvibazar)-Fenchuganj-Sylhet route as an alternative for those travelling between Sherpur (Moulvibazar) and Sylhet.
Meanwhile, commuters on the Saidpur (Nabiganj)-Sherpur-Sylhet-Sunamganj road have been directed to take the Saidpur Bazar (Moulvibazar)-Raniganj-Jagannathpur-Sunamganj road.
Authorities say the closure is necessary for the repair of a damaged deck slab on the Sherpur Bridge, which spans over the Kushiara River at the 186th kilometer of the Dhaka-Sylhet National Highway (N-2).
