A fire that broke out at a petrol pump and CNG filling station in Mohakhali has left at least one person burned.
The blaze erupted around 7:15pm on Sunday at the Eureka Enterprise station near Mohakhali Railgate, prompting a response from the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The Fire Service dispatched 10 units to the site and the firefighters subdued the flames by 7:45pm. They were assisted by two units from the Air Force.
Strong gas fumes lingered at the scene. Immediate details on the cause or total damage were not available.
Eureka Enterprise employee Al Amin said, “The fire broke out while fuel was being filled into a vehicle tank.”
The station is adjacent to Universal Medical College Hospital, with the RAOWA Club located on the opposite side. Flames were visible from a distance.
Traffic from Mohakhali to Jahangir Gate was blocked, and part of Mohakhali Flyover was temporarily closed.
Md. Shahjahan, officer at the Fire Service Central Media Cell, said: “Our 10 units worked on-site for about half an hour.”
A 55-year-old man, Mir Hossain, was admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Resident surgeon Shaon Bin Rahman said, “He was brought in injured, and dressing is being applied. The extent of burns on his body has not yet been fully assessed.”
