They have been charged with the murder of restaurant worker Siam Sardar in Mirpur during the quota reform movement

A Dhaka court has sent former culture minister Asaduzzaman Noor and former civil aviation state minister Mahbub Ali to jail in a case over the murder of a restaurant worker named Md Siam Sardar in Dhaka’s Mirpur.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain passed the order upon a plea filed by the investigation officer on Monday.
Earlier on Sunday, the Detective Branch of police detained Noor from his residence in the Nawratan Colony on Bailey Road, while Ali was apprehended from Dhaka’s Segunbagicha.
Mirpur Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahman made the plea after producing the two before court on charges of restaurant worker Siam’s murder during the quota reform movement.
Lawyer Liaqat Hossain represented Noor during the hearing while lawyer M Ataul Gani stood for Ali.
Lawyer Omar Faruk Faruqui opposed the bail plea filed for the two.
