BFIU asks banks to submit Salman Muqtadir’s bank account details, evades questions from journalists

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), has sought the bank account information of content creator Salman Muqtadir.

On Wednesday, the BFIU gave directives to all commercial banks to submit information on his bank accounts and transactions to the agency within the day.

On the same day, Bangladesh Bank announced its monetary policy for the next three months (October-December) at the central bank’s Jahangir Alam Auditorium.

The monetary policy is usually announced by the central bank governor. However, Governor Mostaqur Rahman was not present this time. Deputy Governor Habibur Rahman explained that the governor was busy with official duties.

At the event, journalists raised questions about the request for information on Salman Muqtadir’s bank accounts. The head of the BFIU usually attends monetary policy announcement events, and the agency’s current chief, Ikhtiar Uddin Mohammad Mamun, was also present on Wednesday.

However, when questions about Salman came up during the press conference, he could not be found at the venue. When Deputy Governor Habibur began looking for the BFIU chief to answer the questions, other officials confirmed that he was no longer there.

The deputy governor also suggested that other BFIU officials could answer the questions, but no one came forward.

Unable to find anyone from the BFIU, Habibur said, “I will inform the BFIU about the matter and brief the governor.”
