BNP says will help, but warns new govt over failed pledges

BNP leader and former minister MK Anwar Tuesday said his party was ready to cooperate with the government but warned of mass movement if the new administration fails to keep its key electoral pledges.

Dhaka, Jan 6 (bdnews24.com) – BNP leader and former minister MK Anwar Tuesday said his party was ready to cooperate with the government but warned of mass movement if the new administration fails to keep its key electoral pledges.
"We'll extend all-out help to the government if it wants, and we hope Awami League will translate its electoral manifesto into reality," said the BNP standing committee member.
"But we'll go for a mass movement if the government fails its promises made before the Dec 29 election," Anwar warned.
He made special reference to the AL electoral promise on taming the prices of essentials to the people's reach.
MK Anwar told bdnews24.com after the swearing-in of the new cabinet at the Bangabhaban Tuesday that BNP was ready to help the help the government if and when it wants.
Asked why BNP chairperson absented herself from the oath-taking ceremony he explained, "BNP leaders and workers have been killed since Dec 29 and their shops and offices ravaged. These are the main reasons why she chose not to attend the function."
"But six or seven BNP leaders joined the ceremony under her (Khaled's) instruction."
