A Dhaka court has ordered the seizure of 58 acres of land worth over Tk 3.68 billion in Chattogram, Narayanganj and Dhaka owned by businessman Saiful Alam - who chairs the S Alam Group - and his family members.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Zakir Hossain Galib delivered the order on Thursday following a plea filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, or ACC, according to the anti-graft watchdog’s Court Inspector Amir Hossain.
Some of the assets for confiscation in Chattogram are: 0.16 acres of land in the city’s Ward No. 18 worth Tk 13.7 million, 0.13 acres in the same ward worth Tk 13.5 million, 8.50 decimals in the city’s No. 1 Patharghata union worth Tk 35.4 million, two plots of 0.9 acres and 1.20 acres of land in the same union worth Tk 3.7 million and Tk 6 million respectively.
The properties in Narayanganj include 1.38 acres of land and 2,000 square feet of semi-brick building owned by SAVOLA Oil Ltd worth Tk 121.7 million, two acres of land of the same company worth Tk 77 million, 1.36 acres of land worth Tk 12.1 million, 1.34 acres of land worth Tk 11.5 million, 1.82 acres of land worth Tk 60 million, 3.82 acres of land worth Tk 127.5 million, 2.18 acres of land worth Tk 72.9 million. Delta Oil Refinery Ltd has 1.21 acres and a 1,500 square foot building worth Tk 72.9 million, 1.17 acres of land and a 500 square foot semi-brick house worth Tk 15.4 million, 3.65 acres of land worth Tk 7.3 million, 1.63 acres of land worth Tk 62.9 million.
The assets in Dhaka are 7,200 sq ft of land worth Tk 25 million in Gulshan, 90.88 decimal of land and a one-storey building of 3,000 sq ft worth 569.6 million in Tejturi Bazar of the Dhaka North City Corporation, and 0.33 acres of land in the Dhanmondi residential area.
Earlier on Oct 7, the court had barred S Alam, his wife Farzana Parveen and 12 members of his family from leaving the country.
The other suspects are his two sons Ashraful Alam and Ahsanul Alam, and six brothers Morshedul Alam, Shahidul Alam, Rashedul Alam, Abdus Samad, Osman Gani and Mohammad Abdullah Hasan, Samad’s wife Shahana Ferdous, Osman’s wife Farzana Begum, and an individual named Mishkat Ahmed.
