Indian police have allegedly pushed nine people, including two children, back into Bangladesh through the border in Mymensingh's Dhobaura by threatening and intimidating them.

The incident took place around 5:15pm on Thursday through the Upazila's Munshipara BOP area, Nayek Subedar Md Khairul Islam of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Munshipara Camp said on Friday.

The group had been living and working in India's Chennai for a long time, according to him. Recently, local Indian residents began threatening them to leave for Bangladesh.

While attempting to return to Bangladesh, they were detained by Indian police, who later pushed them across the border.

Khairul said that once the BGB was made aware of the situation, they took all nine people, including the two children, into custody. They are currently being sheltered at the BGB camp.

He added that preparations were underway to hand them over to Dhobaura Police Station for further legal procedures.

Earlier, on Jun 2, 12 people were similarly pushed into Bangladesh by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) through the Munshipara BOP area. That group included three women, eight men, and one child.

At the same time, the BSF pushed another group of 10 people into Bangladesh through the border area of the Surjyapur Camp in neighbouring Haluaghat upazila.
