What began as a symbolic online protest by teachers over the song “Shraboner Meghgulo” is now making its way into classrooms.
Savar Cantonment Public School and College has added a special class on "Monsoon Songs and Poetry" to Wednesday's lesson schedule in response to criticism and trolling that spread on social media.
Teacher Nahida Shafinaz said the initiative aims to nurture students' appreciation for literature and the arts while highlighting the positive side of respectful, creative protest.
"We have asked students to learn a monsoon song and prepare either a self-written poem or recite a well-known poem about the rainy season," she told bdnews24.com.
The movement began after Beauty Rani Pal, headteacher of Pitaitikor Government Primary School in Sylhet's Fenchuganj, faced online trolling for posting a Facebook reel showing herself walking in a blue saree with the song “Shraboner Meghgulo” playing in the background.
Teachers across the country later embraced the song in a wave of social media posts as a symbolic act of solidarity.
Now, the Savar school is taking the campaign beyond the virtual world, using music, poetry and literature to encourage creativity and freedom of expression among students.
