Minister Ariful tells factories to clear workers’ wages, bonuses before Eid

He warns of government intervention for factories with unpaid wages

Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has directed all factories to pay workers’ Eid bonuses and monthly wages by May 21 before Eid-ul-Azha.

He issued the directive at a meeting held at the CIRDAP Auditorium on Thursday.

“The government is committed to ensuring safe and hassle-free Eid travel for workers,” he said.

“To avoid traffic congestion on highways, factories have been instructed to grant holidays in phases based on understanding between owners and workers.”

“Local administration, district police and industrial police have also been given special instructions to ensure payment of wages and bonuses and maintain overall security. If payments are made on time, there will be no labour unrest or industrial instability.”

“However, the government will quickly intervene in cases where factories still have unpaid wages,” he warned.
