The government has assigned two officers from the information cadre to the posts of deputy press secretary and assistant press secretary in the Public Affairs Division of the President's Office for posting on deputation.
A notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration shared the information on Tuesday.
According to the notification, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Press Information Department (PID) Molla Ahmad Qutubud Deen has been assigned to the President's Office as deputy press secretary.
SM Rahat Hasnat, senior information officer of the PID, has been assigned to the post of assistant press secretary.
The notification said that both are currently working in the PID. The order, issued in the public interest, will come into effect immediately.
Earlier on Feb 24, retired information cadre officer Md Sarwar Alam was reappointed as press secretary to President Mohammed Shahabuddin, filling a post that had remained vacant for more than a year. The ministry appointed him on a one‑year contractual basis.
Sarwar had retired as secretary three years ago. Later, the interim government appointed him as the president's press secretary on a contract for two years on Dec 23, 2024. However, the appointment was later cancelled.
President Shahabuddin said in an interview at the time that his entire press office was eliminated during the interim government. “The press secretary, deputy press secretary and assistant press secretary – all three were removed. The entire wing was withdrawn.”
With these two new appointments, the press wing of Bangabhaban has now been re-staffed and its workforce strengthened.
