Service on the Dhaka metro rail route from Agargaon to Motijheel has been suspended since 9:15am on Wednesday due to a technical glitch.
Though there were initial reports that one of the viaducts had shifted, the issue was caused when a spring was displaced in the Farmgate area, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rauf said.
“For over an hour, the middle spring that runs through the three lanes of the viaduct under the train line at Farmgate Station has been displaced. For now, metro rail service has been suspended, mainly for safety reasons. Trains are not running directly from Uttara to Motijheel, but rail service from Uttara to Agargaon is still operational.”
Asked how long it would take to restore train service on the section, he said:
“Work has already begun. We hope to resume service within two hours.”
A DMTCL official said, “Train service along the Agargaon to Motijheel section was temporarily suspended from 9:30am, but is still running from Uttara North to Agargaon.”
