Trader dies in Bogura as tree falls on shop in Nor’wester storm

Fire Service members cut the branches of the fallen Banyan tree to recover the body

A trader has died after a Banyan tree collapsed onto a shop during a Nor’wester storm in Bogura’s Gabtali Upazila.

The incident took place around 4:30am on Monday in Lathiganj Bazar of Sukhanpukur Union, said Model Police Station chief Rakib Hasan.

The deceased, 52-year-old Uma Chandra, hailed from Chakradhika Paschim Para village in Gabtali.

Citing locals, police official Rakib said: “When the Nor’wester storm began early in the morning, a Banyan tree next to Uma Chandra’s shop fell onto it. He died on the spot,”

“When informed, Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene and cut the branches of the fallen tree to begin recovery of the body.”

Necessary legal measures are under way over the incident, the police officer said.
