A man has been beaten and hacked to death during a clash over sand extraction in Mymensingh's Gafargaon Upazila.

The incident occurred around 10pm on Monday in Talali village, according to Pagla Police Station chief Mohammad Ferdous Alam.

The victim was identified 25-year-old Mehedi Hasan Rakib, a local resident.

Another person was also shot during the incident, though their identity has not yet been confirmed.

Mehedi reportedly had a dispute with a local named "Yasin" over sand extraction, said Ferdous, citing locals. The two sides clashed, and during the altercation, Yasin’s associates fatally attacked Mehedi.

Informed of the matter, police went to the scene and took control of the situation. Law enforcers recovered Mehedi's body, while the wounded person was sent to the hospital for treatment.

Police said that legal proceedings were underway in connection with the incident.
