Thousands of devotees have poured into the streets of Chattogram to mark Eid-e-Miladunnabi, joining the 55th Jashne Julus held this year.
The procession, organised by the Anjuman-e-Rahmania Ahmadia Sunnia Trust, set off on Wednesday at 10am and continued until noon.
People began streaming into the city from different parts of Chattogram from dawn to join the procession, many carrying Bangladesh's national flag alongside Sunni flags.
The Julus began from Alamgir Khanka, next to Jamea Ahmediya Sunnia Kamil Madrasa in Sholoshahar.
As in previous years, Syed Muhammad Sabir Shah led the procession. Before it set off, he spoke on the significance of Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
The procession then wound through Bibirhat, Muradpur, Sholoshahar 2 Number Gate, GEC, WASA Intersection, Dampara and Lalkhan Bazar, before looping back via Tiger Pass Intersection to the Julus ground next to Jamea Madrasah, where it concluded.
Muhammad Anwar Hossain, secretary general of the trust, told bdnews24.com at noon that the Jashne Julus had gone off smoothly, adding that they were now heading to the madrasa.
Syed Md Qasem Shah and Syed Md Aqib Shah attended as guests.
The 12th of Rabiul Awal in the Hijri calendar marks the birth and death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, observed across the Muslim world as Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police shut down the Lalkhan Bazar-Muradpur Flyover on Wednesday because of the procession.
