Poet Rezauddin Stalin becomes new director general of Shilpakala Academy

It comes a week after an office order had assigned the role to Abul Foyez Md Alauddin Khan

Poet Rezauddin Stalin, the member secretary of the National Poetry Council, has been appointed the new director general of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

“He joined the [cultural affairs] ministry today. He will come here in a bit. He has not come yet,” Shilpakala Academy Secretary Mohammad Wares Hossain said on Sunday.

Poet Mohon Raihan, National Poetry Council convener, also confirmed the appointment.

The appointment comes a week after an office order had assigned the role to Abul Foyez Md Alauddin Khan, additional secretary (administration) at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in addition to his existing duties.

The post has seen a series of changes in the past year. It fell vacant after Liaquat Ali Lucky resigned on Aug 5 last year after the fall of the Awami League government during the student-led mass uprising.

On Sept 9, Syed Jamil Ahmed, theatre director and researcher was appointed for two years as DG, while the academy council was also reconstituted.

Jamil resigned from the position on Feb 28 this year. On Mar 4, Mohammad Wares Hossain was given charge as acting director general.
