Regular classes were held in the school run by the US Embassy at Baridhara's United Nations Road, its security guards said when approached by bdnews24.com around 11am.

This correspondent was refused entry when he presented his card and asked to speak to a school representative.

When asked why the school was open on a national holiday, security official 'Masum' said the US embassy was in charge of providing statements regarding schedule.

The embassy, however, said it was the school's decision to hold classes.

When approached, Rex Moser, a spokesperson of the embassy, told bdnews24.com: “It is their (school’s) academic calendar. They plan it.”

It is not known if the school held programmes to observe National Mourning Day, which marks the day in 1975 when Bangabandhu sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the nation's father, was killed along with most of his family members.
