Dhaka North City Corporation will carry out evictions 'without prior notice': administrator

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will begin carrying out eviction drives without prior notice to free up pavements for pedestrians, Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan has said.

Speaking on Saturday during an Aedes mosquito larva destruction and cleaning campaign near the metro rail station in West Shewrapara, he said previous eviction efforts targeting illegal businesses along footpaths had proved insufficient.

"Previously, we issued notices before evictions. To reduce public suffering and ensure better civic services, the North City Corporation has decided that there will be no more notices.

“From now on, there will only be immediate evictions so citizens can use the footpaths," Shafiqul said.

Addressing the rising dengue threat, the administrator urged residents to ensure water does not accumulate in homes, offices, or business premises.

He said fines and warnings are being issued wherever mosquito larvae are detected.

Shafiqul also directed local staff to remove posters pasted on Metro Rail pillars within 72 hours.

Commenting on recent heavy rainfall, he claimed that waterlogging in areas such as Kazipara and Shewrapara had eased following cleanup operations targeting drains and box culverts.
