Experts say no hawker policy can work unless the extortion syndicates behind Dhaka street vending are dismantled
It asks authorities to respond within four weeks
To ensure smooth pedestrian movement and rehabilitate street vendors, nine designated vending zones have been set across Dhaka’s two city corporation. On Thursday, 302 hawkers were also issued digital ID cards.
Eviction drives are being used to extort more and replace old syndicates with new ones, says a statement
Police clear illegal shops and parking across the capital as the crackdown will continue until Apr 5
No untoward incident has been reported since the drive began in the capital at 10am on Wednesday
The campaign will continue from Apr 1 to 5, an official notice says
