Veteran journalist Joynal Abedin has died at the age of 88.
He passed away at his son’s residence in the United States on Thursday, according to Ayub Bhuiyan, general secretary of the National Press Club.
Joynal was born on Oct 15, 1937 in Charparbatipur village in Noakhali’s Companiganj Upazila.
After completing his education, he began his career in journalism in Dhaka in 1967.
He served as the news editor for the Eastern News Agency (ENA).
Joynal later worked for several news organisations, including Morning News, The Financial Express and bdnews24.com.
He also spent many years as the Dhaka correspondent for the Indian daily Hindustan Times.
In early 2009, Joynal moved to the United States to join his son, who was residing there.
He was a permanent member of the National Press Club and widely known among journalists as “Joynal Bhai”.
Hasan Hafiz, president of the National Press Club, and Bhuiyan expressed their condolences and offered prayers for the eternal peace of his soul.
