The newspapers, online news portals, and radio and TV stations owned by the conglomerate are being accused of involved in ‘negative propaganda’ against the private university after an NSU student was assaulted and injured by security guards at Bashundhara Residential Area.

With the incident in the backdrop, the NSU authorities on Saturday issued a 'special circular' on the 'verbal agreement' with Bashundhra.

According to the circular:

# The conglomerate (Bashundhara) will bear the entire medical costs of the injured student - Shahriar Hasnat Topu. The costs will include treatment abroad, if necessary.

# Bashundhara Group and its associated media will not publish any more news, articles, or editorials adverse to the image of NSU directly or indirectly.

# NSU students must refrain from holding any demonstration like human-chain programme and rally against Bashundhara Group and its associates.

# No side will take any legal action, including filing FIR, over the incidents occurred from Wednesday.

# No proceedings will be initiated by the law enforcement authorities based on the allegations in electronic and print media associated with the Bashundhara Group against any student of NSU, including the students named specifically, about the recent incident.

The circular also said the NSU vice-chancellor would address the students at the Plaza area of NSU at 9:30 am on Sunday.

On Wednesday midnight, Bashundhara security guards beat up Topu, a sixth-semester student of BBA at the University, over parking a motorcycle at a gate of the residential area.

The students demonstrated at the gate until the wee hours that night.

Later in the morning on Thursday, the students went on the rampage in the residential area.

A newspaper owned by Bashundhara reported the incident as 'rampage by militants after propaganda'.

Other media outlets of Bashundhara's East West Media Group published same types of news stories on the incident, drawing flak o the social media.
